La historia sigue a Fa Mulan, una joven que desafía las expectativas culturales al disfrazarse de hombre para salvar a su padre de la guerra, lo que establece un fuerte mensaje sobre el valor y el sacrificio. Las actuaciones de voz, especialmente la de Eddie Murphy como Mushu, aportan un toque de humor que contrasta con la seriedad de los temas tratados.
